POST: Consultant Clinical Scientist, Deputy Head of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I)
LOCATION: Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics,
Derriford Combined Laboratory, Level 6, Derriford Hospital
HOURS: 37.5 hrs per week
SALARY: Band 8C £74,290 – £85,601
Working in Derriford Hospital H&I laboratory provides exciting opportunities both for personal development and contributions to the histocompatibility and immunogenetics community.
Plymouth is a lively city with a large student base, Grammar schools and is currently benefitting from significant investment and redevelopment. Plymouth is bordered by almost one thousand square kilometres of Dartmoor National Park to the North, and glorious coastline to the South, providing numerous opportunities for activities such as walking, camping, watersports and fishing. National and International airports can be reached within one and two hours from Plymouth.
This post offers great opportunity for experienced candidates with FRCPath in H&I to develop their skills whilst deputizing for the Clinical Lead for H&I services. Applicants with significant experience at band 8A or above in H&I who are in the process of completing their FRCPath will also be considered. However, applicants working towards FRCPath will be paid at Annex 21 until fully qualified. This is in line with NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
Applicants must have demonstrable H&I experience, particularly in solid organ transplantation, with expertise in molecular HLA typing methodologies, flow cytometry, Luminex technology and virtual crossmatching. Experience in leading teams through change is essential. You will take part in the 24/7 Consultant Clinical Scientist on call rota for renal transplantation and deceased donor typing, for which additional payments are made.
